"Email is already taken" when creating a Keychain

Overview

You may see the message "Email is already taken" when trying to manually create a Keychain. This means a Keychain account already exists for the email address you are attempting to use.

When this happens, you will not be able to create a new Keychain — instead, you should log in to your existing one or reset the password if needed.

What to Do

  1. Log in to your existing Keychain account.
  2. If you do not know your Keychain password, click Reset Password and follow the instructions.
  3. Once logged in, if you cannot see any accounts linked, you can manually add your account(s) from the Keychain home page.

Tips & Notes

  • Your email can only be linked to one Keychain account.
  • Password reset emails expire after a short time — follow the link promptly.
  • If you reset your password, check your spam/junk folder if the email does not arrive.
