What is conflict in data?

Overview

A data conflict occurs when an assessment, assessment plan, or review has been edited online in Onefile after it was downloaded to the Onefile Eportfolio app. When the app attempts to sync again, the system detects differences between the online and app versions. Instead of automatically overwriting information, Onefile uses the Conflict Manager to allow you to choose which version to keep.

This prevents data loss and ensures that you retain the most accurate or up‑to‑date version of the work.

When Does a Conflict Occur?

A conflict typically occurs when the following happens:

  1. An Assessment, Assessment Plan, or Review is created or edited online in Onefile.
  2. The Eportfolio app is synced, downloading a copy of the assessment, plan, or review.
  3. Changes are then made offline in the app.
  4. Meanwhile, additional changes are also made to the online version.
  5. When the app syncs again, Onefile detects that the online and offline versions no longer match and triggers the Conflict Manager.

How Do I Resolve a Data Conflict?

When the Conflict Manager appears, you will be asked to select one of the following:

  • Keep the online version – overwrites the offline edits on your device.
  • Keep the offline version – pushes the changes made in the app to Onefile.

Carefully compare the differences before making your choice to avoid losing important updates.

Important Notes

  • Always review both versions carefully before selecting an option in the Conflict Manager.
  • Conflicts occur when edits happen in both the app and the online system before syncing.
  • Frequent syncing reduces the chance of conflicts.

✅ Tip: Sync the Onefile app before starting offline work and again immediately after finishing to minimise conflicts.
