Are Barriers to Learning Already Included in the Inclusion Module?

✨ Frequently Asked Question
This article forms part of our Inclusion Module FAQ series.

Overview

Yes. The Inclusion Module comes pre-populated with a range of commonly used support-related values, helping Centres get started quickly without needing to create all categories from scratch.

These default values can be used immediately and can be customised to reflect your organisation's support processes and terminology.

What Is Included?

The Inclusion Module includes pre-configured values for:

  • Barriers to Learning
  • Support Need Types
  • Reasonable Adjustments
  • Learning Styles
  • Additional Characteristics
  • Support Types

These values provide a starting point for recording learner support information and can be reviewed and updated by a Centre Manager.

Can These Values Be Customised?

Yes. Most Inclusion Module lookups can be configured to meet the requirements of your Centre.

Centre Managers can add, edit, or remove values through:

  1. Click Settings.
  2. Select Lookups.
  3. Choose the category you wish to manage.
  4. Add or update values as required.

This allows Centres to align the Inclusion Module with their internal support processes and preferred terminology.

Are Any Values Fixed?

Yes. Not all data within the Inclusion Module can be edited.

ILR Monitoring Codes are system-controlled values and cannot be amended by Centres.

This helps ensure consistency with funding and reporting requirements.

Why Use the Default Values?

The default values have been provided to help Centres:

  • Start using the Inclusion Module immediately.
  • Maintain consistency when recording learner support information.
  • Reduce implementation time.
  • Standardise support terminology across teams.

Many Centres will find that the default values cover a significant proportion of their learner support requirements.

Example

A Centre begins using the Inclusion Module for the first time.

  • Default Barriers to Learning are already available.
  • Support Need categories are already configured.
  • The Centre Manager reviews the lists and adds several organisation-specific values.
  • Staff can immediately begin recording learner support information using the updated lists.
